Or from Latin _sēcūrus_ (“untroubled, carefree”), from _cura_. Compare Russian cкрытый, сокрытый ('hidden', 'covered', from Russian сокрыть ('to hide', 'to conceal'), which in turn derives from Russian крыть ('to cover')). Displaced native Middle English _diȝel_ "secret" (from Old English _dīegol_ "secret"), Middle English _derne, deorne_ "dark, hidden, secret" (from Old English _dierne_ "dark, hidden, secret"), Middle English _roune, rowne_ "secret, secret counsel" (from Old English _rūn_), Middle English _hidel_ "secrecy, secret" (from Old English _hȳdels_ "hiding-stow").
