Displaced Middle English _del, dele_ (“part”) (from Old English _dǣl_ (“part, distribution”)), Middle English _dale_ (“part, portion”) (from Old English _dāl_ (“portion”)), Middle English _sliver_ (“part, portion”) (from Middle English _sliven_ (“to cut, cleave”), from Old English _(tō)slīfan_ (“to split”)).
