Latin - Etymology
* From Proto-Indo-European _*t(e)mp-lo-s_, from the root _*temp-_ (“to stretch, string”), whence also _tempus_ and _tempora_.
* Or, possibly for *temulus, from Proto-Indo-European _*tem-_ (“to cut”). Thus a (sacred) section, analogous to Ancient Greek _τέμενος_ (témenos), from _τέμνω_ (témnō) See also Latin _temnō_, _tondeō_, _tempus_.
